The LERC teams from Downsview, Scarborough and Mississauga joined in on a teleconference with Fil Savoia to discuss the recently announced Downsview relocation.  Some key points that where made include:

Individual issues were brought up for those employees that discussed the move with there managers.  Once lateral transfers are completed (with in two weeks) then the employer in consultation with the LERC will consider the concerns brought forward.  Several solutions are being looked at including job trading with people from other offices who also wish to move.  Also management will review job assignments of teams once the dust settles from the location change so if you find the location change becomes undesirable for you, be sure to talk to your manager and put it in writing (e-mail).

For additional information about the relocation please visit our secure Facebook page.

The Downsview location held a unit meeting today and held steward elections.  Congratulations to Rick Weaver, Jenna Baird, Elizabeth Betsch, Steve Watts, Jeanne Summerville, Frank Tancredi and aPaul Faustino.  All of whom were elected as unit stewards for the next two year term.  The meeting was a great success, LERC information, the Downsview move and information on the CWWA survey monkey results were all discussed in front of a packed room.  Collective Agreements were handed out and a quick survey was completed by the membership.  We asked, you answered and now we will listen.  The results of this survey are being tabulated and will be shared once your union comes up with an action plan based on your wants and needs.  Thank you for showing your support, looks like we’ll need a bigger meeting room next time!

New Legislation coming to combat Workplace Violence / Workplace Harassment.  Training on this new legislation is occurring  the week of April 12th.  If you have ANY Concerns about how your being treated in our workplace please contact a Steward or a member of the 585 Executive.

On a positive note your Local 585 Unit Stewards have been very busy dealing with your issues and resolutions to these issue's have been getting corrected early in the grievance process.

The Greater Toronto Area Council (GTAC) and the Region 5 Executive Board held an emergency meeting at 31 Wellesley Street.  Your President Marc Dugas and Vice President Rick Weaver attended to represent Local 585.  The meeting included an informative presentation by RANDY ROBINSON (0PSEU ECONOMIST) which was about Making sense of the Liberal Budget and how it will impact public sector workers and all workers in the future.  Randy discussed how this government used the budget as a tool by leaking all aspects of the budget except the wage freeze of public workers.  Thus making this the news of the day while the rest of the budget went unchallenged.  Including the part where the government is spending more money this year even though the deficit is at a record high.  We also discussed how OPSEU and unions in general have been viewed by the public as of late.   There will be upcoming events for Region 5 to show our support for other workers as well as to try and educate the general public.
